Purim for Kids at South Head
WOW was the word on everyones tongue, as they entered the Herbert Hall on Purim night. Whether due to the sheer number of children (and their parents), or possibly from the sight of the incredible reptiles. With over 350 children in attendance and a total of over 550 people in the room, the event began with the joyous singing of the Chag Purim song. Continuing with a short reading of the Megillah, a dress up party, and of course more lively music accompanied by Chazzan yehoshua Niasoff.
Are we ready to see a crocodile, touch a snake or pat a turtle? were the next words to be heard from Rivky. With a resounding yes, and a loud cheering for Tony the reptile show began. "The blue tongue lizard never lies and it will lick you if you ate a lolly that day! do we have any volunteers?" exclaimed Tony. Quickly many children began raising their hands, and surprisingly the lizard didn't get tired licking their cheeks. Then each child had the opportunity to have a snake around their necks, a lizard on their heads, and last but not least a pat on the crocodile.
Every child received a Mishloach Manot packed by dedicated SHY volunteers, along with a coin for Tzedokah.

Teen Purim Live
Over 100 teenagers passed through the Shuchat's home for
a Purim Bash. The event started at 9:30 with a
delicious BBQ, evolving into a Farbrengen which
lasted into the early hours of the morning.
It was an impressive event. Great food, unified
singing, and of course, words of Torah delivered by
Rabbi Milecki and Rabbi Shuchat. The atmosphere was
electric, quickly sweeping up new comers with its
exuberance. In spite of no under-age drinking, the
boys got into the joyous spirit of Purim, taking
advantage of their long-weekend in a kosher way.

Purim @ Nursing Homes
What better way to celebrate Purim, then by bringing happiness to others. Therefore, on friday morning two groups of children from South Head Youth went to visit the residents at Rose Bay & Vaucluse nursing homes. Dressed in costume and replete with Mishloach Manot and handcrafted Happy Purim cards the children began visiting the residents. Dancing in a circle they sang various Purim and Jewish songs to the extreme delight of all.
The joy, smiles and even some tears expressed by the residents, really brought home to the children what a great Mitzvah they were doing. All in all over 60 Mishloach Manot and cards were distributed on Purim day. With all the rave reviews received by children, parents, and residents alike we intend to make this a permanent fixture of South Head Youth preceding every Yom Tov. Anyone who would like to join should please make contact with us.
